The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

If you examine Thror’s map (and Thror you may remember was Bilbo’s Grandfather) which is printed at the front of The Hobbit or There and Back Again by J.R.R. Tolkien, under the Running River you will find mention of The Desolation of Smaug. This rather aptly has been used as the title of the second film in the Hobbit trilogy because Smaug, of course, is the dragon. “Dragons steal gold and jewels, you know, from men and elves and dwarves, wherever they can find them; and they guard their plunder as long as they live…  There was a most specially greedy, strong and wicked worm called Smaug…..”

The official trailer was published yesterday but we will have to wait until December the 13th to see the next film directed by Peter Jackson.
