Title: The Maximum Ride series
Author: James Patterson
What is it about? This is the first book in a series of eight. It was published in 2005, so it is getting on a bit, but it is well worth a read if you haven’t come across it before. It follows the adventures of six kids – Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, the Gasman, and Angel. They are pretty normal teenagers except that they’re 98 percent human, and 2 percent bird because they grew up in a lab, living like rats in cages. On the back of the cover it says: “Strap yourself in for the thrill ride you’ll want to take again and again! From Death Valley, California, to the bowels of New York City subway system, you’re about to take off on a heart-stopping adventure that will blow you away….” Filming the book ran into problems but a film may eventually appear in 2014.
What did you think of it, and why did you pick it up? I saw it on the display shelves of the library and as I have read other books by James Patterson, I thought it might be a good read. I have read two books in the series now and I think they are a pretty good, fast-paced books, although I found them quite light-hearted books, and not as dark as some of his other thrillers.
Star Rating: * * * * (I dropped a star because book two was a bit repetitive)
Who would enjoy reading this? I would suggest this for Years 9 to 13
