This sign was spotted in a cafe at the New Brewery Arts Centre sitting on the table. The British Library was founded in 1753 but if you look closely you can see the number of items has been re-written. In fact the British Library Collection includes well over 150 million items.
By contrast the National Library of New Zealand was only founded in 1858, and has many less items. However, it has a large collection of digitised items including images and papers. The New Zealand Herald for example is now available online between 1863 and 1884.
