LibraryThing

Have you come across LibraryThing before? It describes itself as a cataloging and social networking site for book lovers.  It is also a place where “You can contribute tags, ratings and reviews for a book, and Common Knowledge (facts about a book or author, like character names and awards), as well as participate in member forums”.
So this is also a good place to discover what readers are reading and reviewing. Start your search at the top right hand side of the home page where it says Search Site, and enter your book title or author. I entered The Help by Kathryn Stockett  where I discovered that this book had been listed by 9,644 people who had written a total 741 reviews. Tags for the book included 1960’s, civil rights, historical fiction, Mississippi, and race relations;  a good indication of what the book was about. I could also see that it had an average rating of 4.47 stars out of a total possible 5.

The film version of The Help will soon be released in New Zealand. For a sneak preview see this trailer.
